Quick answer

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the discipline of getting a brand cited as a source inside answers produced by generative search engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Classic SEO competes for a ranking; GEO competes for a place inside the answer.

Search changed, so did the scoreboard

Users no longer see ten blue links for every question. Increasingly they get one synthesised answer and click the two or three sources under it. In that world, ranking first is not enough if you are not inside the answer.

What do models cite?

Generative engines favour sources that are consistent, verifiable and clearly structured on a topic. In practice that means three things: consistency across the web about who the brand is, content that answers the question in its first sentence, and a page structure a machine can read without friction.

What we actually do

We start by measuring the baseline: for your target questions, which engine cites whom? Then we build the entity layer — the schema.org graph, consistent corporate facts, corrections to third-party mentions. Then we reshape the content: a crisp 40–60 word answer block on every important page, followed by depth.

The final layer is technical access: server-rendered HTML, fast responses, llms.txt and a robots policy that welcomes AI crawlers. When all three layers work together, the brand starts appearing inside the answers.
